Abstract
The study aims at identify the level of both the cognitive structures, and the level of self-regard of the university students. It also aimed to identify the significant differences in cognitive structures and self-regard according to some demographic variables (gender, specialization, and academic stage), and finally to investigate the relationship between to the main variables (cognitive structures and self-regard) among the university students. The researchers adopted the relational descriptive approach. The sample consisted of (600) male and female from the students of University of Anbar for the academic year (2019-2020). To achieve the aims of the study, the researchers prepared a scale of cognitive structures, consisted of (46 items) and (6) subscales. For the self-regard scale, the researchers adopted Khamass scale (2012), which was based on the theory of "Carl Rogers". The scale consisted of (26) items. After the researchers verified the psychometric characteristics of the two scales, the data were analysed. The results indicated that university students have above the average level of both cognitive structures and self-regard. The results also showed that there are no statistically significant differences in the cognitive structures and self-regard according to the three demographic variables (gender, specialization, and academic stage). The results also showed that there is a positive significant correlation between cognitive structures and self-regard.
