Abstract
The article aimed to explore the effectiveness of using the role-playing strategy in improving the teaching of speaking skill in Iraq. Population consisted of all students of the third intermediate grade in Dar Al-Elm Intermediate School for Boys. Sample consisted of 40 students. The researcher taught the students of the experimental group using role-play, whereas the students of the control group were taught based on the traditional method. Instruments used in this study were the observation sheet and the speaking test. It was conducted during the first academic semester of the academic year 2022/2023. The study applied the experimental method. The post-speaking test was administered after 20 lessons of instruction. Results revealed that experimental group students were improved their speaking ability positively. To conclude, role paly strategy affected positively on EFL students’ learning of speaking.
